Poulin wins Hockey East Rookie of the Month

Boston University women’s ice hockey freshman forward Marie-Philip Poulin was named Pro Ambitions’ Hockey East Rookie of the Month for October. Poulin leads the conference in scoring with 16 points, is tied for second in goals with nine and ranks fourth in assists with seven. She leads all freshmen in all three categories.

As the most-hyped recruit in the program’s short history, Poulin did not disappoint in her first month of college hockey, putting up a point in each of BU’s first seven games and turning in a four-goal performance against Wayne State University on Oct. 15. She only needed four games as a Terrier to tie the program record for shorthanded goals in a season, with three &- half of BU’s nation-leading six on the season.

Poulin leads all rookies in the nation with an average of two points per game. She has fit seamlessly into BU’s first line with junior forwards Jenelle Kohanchuk and Jenn Wakefield.

Next weekend, Poulin, along with teammates Wakefield and sophomore defenseman Tara Watchorn, will miss both of BU’s games as they travel to Newfoundland to play for Canada in the Four Nations Cup.
