Campus Crime Logs: Wake-up call

The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs from Jan. 16 to Jan. 24.

Wake-up call
On Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. a female student reported that her laptop was stolen from her dorm room at 481 Commonwealth Avenue while she was brushing her teeth.

The boy who cried  coyote
A man called BUPD on Jan. 17 at 4:00 p.m. to report a coyote in his yard at 50 Worthington St. walking around. Brookline Animal Control was notified, but was unable to locate the animal.

On thin ice
At 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 17 a caller reported people walking on ice on the Cambridge side of the Charles River opposite Nickerson Field and BUPD notified the State Police.

Tower of terror
BUPD was notified of an elevator entrapment at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 on the 17th floor  of C Tower in Warren Towers. Otis, the elevator company, rescued the party.

Food network
On 61 Bay State Road at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, burnt food activated the fire alarm. The Boston Fire Department arrived at the scene to turn off the alarm.

Traffic jam
On Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m., BUPD was notified that a gridlock traffic jam on Babcock St. between Ashford St. and Comm. Ave. caused a civilian to try to direct traffic. An officer arrived on the scene to get traffic flowing.

Phony theft
A phone was stolen off of the security desk at 10 Buick St. on 7:00 a.m. on Jan. 19.

Pop, lock and drop it
At 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 at 146 Comm. Ave., a caller reported smoke coming from a kitchen, which turned out to be burnt popcorn. The Boston Fire Department was notified.

Easy listenin’
At 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 BUPD received an anonymous tip of a “suspicious loud, violent scream” coming from 491 Commonwealth Ave.

Hit-and-run
At 225 Bay State Road on Jan. 20 a caller told police that he saw someone hit another vehicle and drive away at 7:00 p.m.

What the puck?
At 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 a BUPD officer and Agganis Arena EMT assisted a non-affiliate after being hit by a puck at the hockey game. They decided to take a cab to the Boston Medical Center.

Thumpin’ party
At 11:00 p.m. on Jan. 22 someone called BUPD to report “loud, thumping music” above them on 207 Bay State Road.
