W. basketball faces Albany for second time

The Boston University women’s basketball team tips off against University at Albany tonight at Case Gymnasium, as the team will try to maintain its undefeated record.

The Terriers (13-9, 10-0 America East) have already beaten the Great Danes (12-11, 5-5 AE) in Albany by a score of 72-59. In the process of knocking off the then-undefeated Great Danes back in January, BU coach Kelly Greenberg collected her 200th career victory.

Sophomore guard Chantell Alford had 20 points to lead the Terriers while senior center Kerry Cashman finished with a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. Four BU players scored in double-digits

Two opposing players who caused trouble for BU last game against Albany were sophomore forward Julie Forster and sophomore guard Ebone Henry. Henry finished with a team-high 19 points, while Forster finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In their last game on Feb. 1, BU stopped a late comeback by University of Maine to win 71-59. Alford had another big game against the Black Bears, scoring a game-high 28 points including five 3-pointers. Alex Young contributed 22 points, hitting a career-high six 3-pointers.

BU is undefeated in America East and has beaten every team in the conference at least once. The last time the Terriers lost was in a non-conference game against Providence College on the road on Dec. 31.

The streak has been threatened recently by teams such as Binghamton University and University of New Hampshire, who the Terriers beat by five and four points, respectively. Then, last-place Maine pulled within three points against BU before the Terriers finally pulled away for the win.

Cashman, who had a double-double last time out against Albany, is a player to watch as the Terriers move forward in the season. Averaging 7.7 points-per-game this season as well as 8.6 rebounds-per-game, Cashman is a consistent force in the paint as well as a team leader.

The conference playoff picture is beginning to become a little clearer, and the Terriers are in place to be the No. 1 seed with their undefeated AE record. Behind them is Binghamton, which has lost two games, followed by UMBC, which has lost three.

BU has had an eight-day-long break in between games, their longest break since December. December was also the last time the Terriers lost a game, a hot streak they will look to continue in tonight’s game.
