Natural environments

Why aren’t you watching Parks & Recreation? Maybe you are, and maybe you’ll agree with everything I have to say in this week’s article. But I know for a fact that some of you (maybe even many of you) aren’t and that for me is an issue.

Let me begin with the facts – Parks & Recreation is a laugh out loud funny show. The characters are complementary yet diverse, representing the varied personalities that populate small town politics. You have the apathetic, the dedicated and certainly the over-zealous, coming together in one office making a cornucopia of outrageous and side-splitting employee moments in what seems to be an otherwise drab and dull environment.

I will admit, I don’t think “Parks and Recreation Department” and immediately assume everything there must be exciting and hilarious, but perhaps that’s why I’m so intrigued by this show. They manage to take what would be mundane and quite arid daily tasks and with the help of comedians such as Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari, things take a turn for interesting. The cast has even more stars worth mentioning, as season three now features two new regulars: Rob Lowe and Adam Scott.

Created by Greg Daniels (long time writer for SNL and The Simpsons and co-creator of The Office and King of the Hill) and Michael Schur (also a writer for SNL, as well as producer and writer on The Office) the two really teamed up to create an original and smart show. The writing on the program, some of which done by Daniels and Schur, is impeccable and the delivery brings the words to life. This show offers a hilarious and albeit hyper-fictionalized view into an otherwise closeted world within our local governments.

I have turned many friends into fans of Parks and Recreation, showing them choice episodes and waiting anxiously to hear their opinions. More times than not it has been a successful venture so I urge you, go online, find the first season and give Parks and Recreation a chance. If you haven’t yet, you are depriving yourself of some seriously high quality comedy.
