Campus Crime Logs: Raising Hell

The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, 2011.

On Nov. 1 at 12 a.m., the Boston Police Department assisted BUPD in handling an altercation between a male and a female standing next to Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers at 949 Commonwealth Ave. When the fight escalated, BUPD arrived on scene to assist the female. When the male became further uncooperative, BPD arrived and arrested him for being disorderly. Because of the arrest, the female became agitated and assaulted an officer. Both were then placed under arrest. Neither of them is affiliated with BU, and charges are pending.

Suspicious Minds

BUPD officers arrived at Mugar Memorial Library at 771 Commonwealth Ave. on Nov. 2 at 11:15 a.m. in response to a report of two suspicious males who do not attend BU and have been seen in the library frequently. The officers suspected the two of stealing a number of backpacks, cell phones and laptops from the library over the last two weeks. An officer approached the two males, and one fled. After he was chased and caught, the two were placed under arrest and were charged with larceny of more than $250.

What’s in the bag?

On Nov. 2 at 7:50 p.m., a BU employee contacted BUPD and reported seeing a male carrying a plastic bag from the construction site of the new student center after hours. The employee was concerned that the male was unauthorized to be in the construction site and did not see what was in the bag. The suspect left the site in a vehicle before officers arrived, but the investigation is ongoing.

Giant steal

A student reported that a bicycle was stolen from the bike room at 700 Commonwealth Ave. Officers observed that someone had cut a hole into the chain link fence surrounding the room and gained unauthorized entry. The suspect stole a $700 Giant bicycle sometime between 10 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 3, and the bike has not been recovered.

Double whammy

At 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 6, a female student reported observing a male following her as she was walking down the street alone in front of 808 Commonwealth Ave. She said that she took off running when the male got closer behind her. She notified BU, and officers searched the area after notifying Brookline Police Department of the incident. Soon after, officers from the Brookline police stopped and arrested a male for an unrelated drug charge in front of 1100 Commonwealth Ave. The male fit the description the student gave, and police believe it was him.
