The Kills – Royale – Feb 3rd
The loud and bluesy duo of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince is extending its tour of their finest album yet, Blood Pressures, to another date in Boston. Always known for their powerful and sultry sets, The Kills should deliver a rocking show with JEFF the Brotherhood and Hunters supporting.
Titus Andronicus – BU Central – March 2nd
These New Jersey natives are gracing BU’s finest music venue this semester with their indie-crowd-approved angsty punk. They should be drawing from all over their young catalogue while also playing a handful of new numbers. Even though lead singer Patrick Stickles is unfortunately beardless after a freak mid-show electrocution, he and the rest of the band will bring unbridled energy for what promises to be a fantastic show…and it’s all free.
Black Keys – TD Garden – March 7th
Seriously, raise your hand if you thought the two-piece, bluesy, garage-rock outfit would ever be playing—and selling out—arenas throughout the country. Thought so. Arctic Monkeys will be opening.
Dr. Dog – House of Blues Boston – March 22nd
The last time the band made their way to Boston, they delivered two passionate nights of throwback psychedelic rock. Bassist Toby Leaman’s raspy howl is the perfect counterpoint to guitarist Scott McMicken’s unique voice and the two will trade song after song throughout the night. The band will be touring their new Be The Void, a more frenzied and electronic effort.
Hanni El Khatib – Brighton Music Hall – 4/27
It’s the post-White Stripes generation and Hanni El Khatib is trying to fill the gaping hole that the recent breakup of the revered garage rockers left. By taking the essential elements of The White Stripes—the screeching high guitar, the simple drums, and the howl of White’s voice— El Khatib looking to corner in on the market of those who long for music of America’s favorite faux-sibling rock group. Not nearly as good, but if you’re longing for the Stripes, check it out.
Kelly Clarkson – Wang Theatre – January 26th
This is the part of the article in which I write that concert that really doesn’t fit the aesthetics of the others, but was obviously placed by a begrudged author who needed to write to a wider audience.
The Darkness – Paradise Rock Club – February 3rd
The Darkness got big at the beginning of the century with their blend of 80s Glam-Rock and a not-too-serious sense of humor that was manifested in bizarre music videos and entertaining stage antics. They’ll be bringing their impressive Marshall stacks to Boston this winter. Do you believe in a thing called loved?
Das Racist – BU Central – February 10th
Another one of those free BU Central concerts that should promise to be a fun show. The hip-hop trio of eclectic and bizarre Brooklynites will rap of their experiences at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
Rodrigo y Gabriela – Orpheum Theatre – April 23rd
Hailing from Mexico City, the duo of fast playing, acoustic guitar plucking musicians will bring their intimate show to Boston this April.
M83 – House of Blues Boston – May 9th
The French electronic group M83 was all over the place after releasing Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming last year. The album has been featured in many end-of-year lists with “Midnight City” as the standout track.
