On Thursday, March 1 from 6-8 p.m. on the 5th floor of Mugar, students have the opportunity to through original scripts, notes, drawings, photographs, promotional material and memorabilia that will broaden their understanding of a classic Terry Gillam film.
Terry Gillam is a famed screenwriter, film director, animator and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe. He has directed other fabulous films, including Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), The Fisher King (1991) and 12 Monkeys (1995).
The access BU students have to the Archival Research Center is one often taken for granted – lost like a silver keychain in the back of the closet, we know it’s there, but we’re too lazy to dive in and find it.
Justin Wiemer, vice president of the BU Film Society, has put great effort into making this event a reality, and sees it as an eye opening experience.
“As a freshman, I went to a Student Discovery Series event hosted by the Howard Gottleib Archival Research Center,” Wiemer said. “We were able to view scripts, photos and letters from Willem Dafoe, Mary Louise Parker and of course, Terry Gilliam. I was amazed at all the documents showing how much work goes behind-the-scenes into making films and TV shows. It was an experience for the BU Film Society that I hope to share with other students.”
The ability to peruse source materials and documents just after viewing Time Bandits is an opportunity only available to Boston University students and staff, so take advantage of it!
