Pallotta nets team-leading fourth goal

Fans have gotten used to hearing senior Emily Pallotta’s name and number called over the loudspeaker, both at home and on the road, usually in the following way:

‘Boston University goal, scored by number 15, Emily Pallotta.’

And Thursday night’s game against the University of Vermont was no exception.

Pallotta netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 51st minute against the Catamounts, making it a 3-0 BU lead in a game that the Terriers would eventually end up winning by a score of 4-0. She collected a loose ball inside the box and blasted a shot that went past UVM goalkeeper Eliza Bradley.

‘It was just good for the team to come out against a great team like Vermont and get a 4-0 win,’ Pallotta said after Thursday’s game. ‘It was pretty big for us.’

The senior co-captain from Andover has now scored four goals in her last five games. Her first goal of the season came on Sept. 24th, a game-winning header against Dartmouth College two minutes into overtime that gave the Terriers a 2-1 victory against the Big Green.

In conference play, she now leads all America East Players in shots (13) and goals (3) and is tied for first with seven points and one game-winning goal.

This week, Pallotta was named America East Co-Player of the Week and GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week after her performance against Maine last Sunday, in which she scored two goals, the second one being the eventual game winner in the Terriers’ 4-2 win.

Pallotta, however, doesn’t let her individual statistics and recent honors go straight to her head. The team always comes first, and if her goals help BU get a win, she’ll take it, she said.

‘Definitely it’s good to put another one in the net, but whatever it takes to win, you know?’ Pallotta said.

BU coach Nancy Feldman had nothing but praise for her senior midfielder.

‘She’s always been a real impactful player on our team and more and more every year,’ Feldman said. ‘She has such a strong will and determination to get to the goal and to get into the box. She makes chances out of nothing. She’s a very good player, and she’s become an even better player this season.’

With four conference games under their belts and a 4-0 record in those contests, the Terriers are headed in the right direction towards repeating as America East Champions and earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

‘I think we’re definitely picking it up in conference play,’ Pallotta said. ‘We’re really experienced, and we know how important each game is, whether it’s on the road or here. We can set our own destiny in conference if we win through. And that’s how you make the tournament, and that’s what we’re shooting for.’
