COM Ball A Hit With Students

The music was on at full blast at the Tremont Boston Hotel, and 150 Boston University students danced to everything from hip-hop to ABBA at the College of Communication Winter Ball Friday. The event was organized by the COM Student Assembly.

Lauren Liebes, the president of COMSA and a senior in COM, praised this year’s ball.

“We have a bigger room because we sold more tickets. We’re very excited about it,” Liebes said.

According to COMSA, the main focus for the ball every year is clear.

“We wanted a fun event off campus, but we still wanted to keep everyone [in COM] together. This ball is a very fun way to get together, and everyone seems to be enjoying [it],” Liebes said.

Dave Bresler, COMSA’s executive vice president and a junior in COM, said the reason participants enjoyed the ball was their affection for their school.

“The 150 people that are here today are people who really care about COM,” he said.

“These are the people who want to be involved in COM,” Liebes agreed.

Kyle Day, a freshman in COM whom attended the ball, said he was having fun. “It was a great turnout with a lot of awesome diverse people.”

Other COM students agreed.

“It’s an awesome party. It’s really good to be able to have some clean fun with all my COM friends,” said Jessica Levine, a COM freshman.

Although the Ball was mainly for COM students, students from other schools were welcome as well. Many of those who attended also said they enjoyed the experience.

“It’s really nice to get dressed up, and I’m having a lot of fun,” said Lisa Romeo, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences. “It’s usually too crowded in clubs, so I like the way it is here, not too crowded.”

Alexis Clark, also a sophomore in CAS, agreed.

“I haven’t danced in a long time, but it’s really fun to get dressed up. I like it here.”

Soichiro Furukawa, a student from Japan at the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs at BU said he felt a connection over borders.

“This was my first time dancing, so I didn’t know how to dance,” Furukawa said. “Yet I was able to dance freely without having complications with my English,”

Even an out of state student from the University of North Carolina, Trevor Hoppe, said he was having a great time.

“This is a great way to meet a lot of people, and especially to learn how much fun BU really is.”
