Ryan Holguin states in his criticism of Padraic Carey’s letter that “If God had meant for humankind to know everything, it would.” However, if God had meant for us to believe blindly he/she/it would have created us to be mindless automatons. Clearly reason and rationality exist, which may either be the result of blind physical laws governing neural development and beneficial genetic mutations or possibly God created us several thousand years ago and has been playing us for fools ever since.
This brings up the question of whether your God is kind, indifferent or just mean. Isn’t it normal for a child growing up in an abusive household to learn hatred for their parents, regardless of whether they were his/her creators? Well, the same goes for God. If God exists he/she/it was responsible for allowing 9/11 to happen, it wasn’t Osama’s fault. God is responsible for every disgusting thought that crosses a human’s mind, so why show such respect. If an authority figure abuses me I learn to hate them, although I guess this may be a result of being created in God’s image. We’re both vengeful. I don’t hate god, I simply don’t see a reason to believe there is one.
