The Boston University women’s lacrosse team beat the Hamburg Warriors on Friday, 13-1, but it didn’t mean a thing.
Playing in its first fall league scrimmage, the Terriers beat a German team that didn’t provide much competition for last year’s conference champions.
Seniors Molly Collins and Lauren Morton, along with juniors Sarah Dalton and Kelly Munroe, led the offensive attack. BU coach Liz Robertshaw, who’s entering her second year at the helm, said her offense “did a good job of moving the ball around and finding the open player.”
The Terrier defense wasn’t tested very much by the Warriors’ offense. Senior goalie Jenna Golden, who is expected to be one of the team’s leaders along with Collins and Morton, saved two of just three shots she faced on the day. Golden recorded 10 of the squad’s 13 wins last season and finished with a .440 save percentage.
“We didn’t learn a whole lot about our defense, but we have some tougher teams coming up, so that should change,” Robertshaw said.
The most important stat from this game, however, was that all nine of BU’s freshmen got significant playing time.
“We wanted to get our freshmen up to speed and get them used to college-level lacrosse,” Robertshaw said. “They all looked good and we expect to give them more and more playing time in our upcoming games.”
The Terriers have their alumnae game noon this Saturday at Nickerson Field, followed by the Beanpot Tournament. The Terriers’ first regular season game will be in early March.
