Boston University junior forward Nick Bonino has signed with the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, according to the team’s website. He will forgo his final year of eligibility, a source close to the team told The Daily Free Press Sunday, adding that Bonino left for Anaheim on Saturday to complete the signing.
Bonino led the Terriers in points (38), assists (27) and plus/minus (+18) this season while serving as an assistant captain. His best season came as a sophomore when he registered 50 points on 18 goals and 32 assists to help lead BU to the 2009 national championship.
Bonino was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft and had his rights traded to Anaheim in March 2009 as part of a deadline deal.
