W. hockey to face off with St. Lawrence, Clarkson

The No. 5 Boston University women’ s ice hockey team will host a pair of out-of-

conference games at Walter Brown Arena this weekend. The Terriers (4-1-0) will face off

against St. Lawrence University (1-2-1) on Friday night and will then turn their attentions

to Clarkson University (1-4-1) for a Saturday matinee.

BU enters the weekend riding a four-game winning streak after dropping its first contest

of the season. The BU offense has played a large role in that win streak, as the Terriers

have scored at least four goals in every game so far this season.

Freshman forward Marie-Philip Poulin has led the way offensively thus far. Poulin has

eight goals on the season, and she scored four of those on Oct. 15 in a 7-2 win over

Wayne State University.

Junior forward Jenn Wakefield is also paying dividends on offense. Wakefield, a transfer

student from University of New Hampshire, has seven goals and four assists on the

season.

Poulin, Wakefield and the rest of the BU offense will look to feast on St. Lawrence’ s

uncertain goaltending situation. The Saints have given freshman Caitlyn Lahonen and

graduate student Maxie Weisz equal time in net so far this season. Lahonen has fared

better than Weisz in the early going, earning a .933 save percentage and 1.44 goals-

against average in 125 minutes in net.

At the other end of the ice, the Saints offense has struggled a bit this season, scoring

an average of 1.80 goals per game on an average of 32.5 shots. The Saints are looking

to rebound this weekend after tying and then suffering a tough loss to Clarkson this

weekend.

The win over St. Lawrence on Saturday was Clarkson’ s first of the season. The Golden

Knights opened the year with two shutout losses to the No. 8 University of Minnesota,

then fell to University of Connecticut and Providence College before finally finding

success against the Saints.

Scoring has also been hard to come by for Clarkson, as Saturday’ s win was the first time

they recorded more than one goal this season. Forward Brittany Mulligan leads the team

in scoring with four points, all of them recorded on assists.

In net, the Golden Knights have relied on senior Lauren Dahm, who has put up a .912

save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average despite taking all four losses for the

team.

Like the Terriers, the Golden Knights made the NCAA tournament last year for the first

time in program history, and again like the Terriers, they exited in the first round after a

hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss to Minnesota. Their 23-12-5 overall record was the best in

program history. In the all-time series against BU, they are 1-1-0.

Earlier this week, BU graduate student defenseman Catherine Ward was named the

team’ s third assistant captain, joining senior forwards Lauren Cherewyk and Jillian

Kirchner. Ward has put up three assists in three games.
