Flaming Genie

The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs from April 4 to April 11, 2011

On April 9 at 5 p.m. a cigarette genie caught on fire, most likely because it had not been emptied recently. BUPD and custodians worked together to extinguish the fire.

The key to larceny
On April 4 at 8:20 a.m. a School of Law employee reported that a key box in the basement of the building was damaged and it appeared that someone had unsuccessfully tried to open it. This act could have occurred anytime between April 2 and April 4.

At least they didn’t take the car
At 5:40 p.m. on April 4 a female student contacted BUPD because someone had broken and entered into her parked vehicle at 46 Mountfort St. The person stole a GPS and stereo.

Blinged out
A Claflin Hall resident submitted a larceny report to BUPD on April 5 at 10:15 p.m. She said that since February, some of her belongings have been stolen from her dorm including diamond earrings and a gold necklace.

Crash into me
On April 6 at 10 a.m. a cyclist crashed into the door of a BU vehicle near 910 Commonwealth Ave. No injuries were reported.

Thieving travels
A female non-affiliate called BUPD on April 6 at 4:30 p.m. because between her departure from an airport in Istanbul and her arrival at a student’s dorm on 517 Beacon St., $1,300 in cash had been stolen from her baggage.

Creepin’ peepin’
A female student on the 10th floor of the Warren C tower called BUPD on April 6 at 9 p.m. to report that while showering in the bathroom, she observed a recording device in the one-inch gap between the wall and the ceiling. When she approached the device to inspect it, someone removed it from the other side of the wall.

Get a job
On April 7 at 12:30 p.m. staff from Career Services on 19 Deerfield St. reported that a male student came in inquiring about a job, but when they declined him, he refused to leave.

Late night interruption
At Student Village I on April 8 at 3:20 a.m. the Boston Fire Department and BUPD responded to a fire alarm caused by a student who maliciously sprayed a fire extinguisher on the 13th floor. The smoke detectors went off and everyone had to exit the building.
