Campus Crime Logs

The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs from Oct. 11 to Oct. 16, 2011.

Scammer Alert
On Oct. 11, three different BU students reported incidents of credit card scams. At 5:30 p.m. at 277 Babcock St., one female student reported to that her Bank of America account was accessed and two fraudulent withdrawals were made. Another female student at the same location around the same time reported a telephone call from an unknown company or person requesting bank information. A third at 700 Comm. Ave. reported at 7:30 p.m. that he was contacted and asked for his bank information. Police suspect that all three incidents are tied to one fraudulent scam, and police are investigating the incidents.

R.I.P.

On Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m., BUPD was notified by the Somerville Police Department that a male College of Engineering graduate student was found dead in his apartment. On Oct. 12, Alfred Huang was found in is apartment by his roommate who had last seen him on Oct. 8. Huang had graduated from BU’s College of Arts and Sciences in 2003 with a degree in biology and was expecting to earn his master’s degree in materials science and engineering in 2012. The cause of the student’s death is unknown, but SPD is working with BUPD to investigate.

Hide and seek

A female student reported from 700 Comm. Ave. at 8 p.m. on Oct. 14 that $650 dollars was stolen from her. She had placed the cash in her “hiding place” in her dorm room and does not know who could have taken it. A suspect was not found, but BUPD will continue to investigate.

Random assault
At the intersection of Babcock St. and Comm. Ave., officers observed a male assault a male BU student at 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 15. The male, who is from Quincy, grabbed the student and threw him against a car. The student did not need medical assistance. Police arrested the suspect and charged him with assault and battery.

Give Yourself a Hand
On Oct. 15 at 1:45 p.m., police stopped a student suspected of open and gross lewdness at 575 Comm. Ave. Another student in the building reported seeing a male student masturbating in an area shared with the student. The suspect was told to stop and will be summonsed to a Roxbury court.

Femme fatal

On Oct. 15 at 11:15 p.m., police responded to a report of domestic assault and battery at 158 Bay State Rd. A female student was angry at her ex-boyfriend, also a BU student, and she threw her backpack at him. She then proceeded to hit him in the face and body with her fists. The male student did not retaliate or hit back. He is reportedly contemplating filing for a restraining order to keep her out of the house and is awaiting a court date.

Shopping in the laundry room

A female student reported at 9 p.m. on Oct. 16 that her laundry had been stolen from a laundry room in The Towers at 140 Bay State Rd. A suspect has not been found yet, but police are looking at the surveillance cameras to find the suspect.
