WebReg option available to students

I am writing in response to the article on Web registration (“Web sign-up may replace TelReg” Feb. 21). The Registrar’s Office appreciates The Daily Free Press’ coverage of new initiatives in student service. We think, however, students may be left with some misunderstandings after reading the article and would like to clarify a few points.

After the article appeared in the paper, we received many questions regarding when Web registration will be available to students. All students who are eligible to use TelReg to drop classes can now use WebReg to drop classes, too. As of Wednesday, March 14, College of Communication and College of Engineering students have been able to use WebReg to register for summer classes. Those students will be able to register for Fall 2001 classes following the date and time breakdown already used for TelReg.

In April, we will decide what other schools will have access to Web registration. In order to make this new application as beneficial to the students as possible, we welcome your feedback.

I would also like to clarify that we currently have no plans to eliminate the option to use TelReg. Web registration is meant as an alternative to TelReg.

Finally, I would like to stress the importance of advising. Students will continue to be required to see an advisor. In the future, we do hope to give advisors the ability to approve a student’s schedule on the Web, eliminating the need for an Advising Authorization Code (AAC) at the time of registration. For those students whose advisors do not give authorization on the Web, an AAC will still be required.

Please forward your suggestion regarding Web registration to the Registrar’s Office (registrar@bu.edu).
