STAFF EDIT: Good Luck Patriots

Although few could have predicted it, the New England Patriots have made it to the Super Bowl. They beat the odds and rose above some of the best teams in the National Football League with character. But best of all, they stand to be the first Boston-area professional sports team to win a national title since the Boston Celtics in 1986.

The city of Boston thrives on its sports teams. The Red Sox can do no wrong, and when the Colorado Avalanche won the 2001 Stanley Cup, Boston residents could not have been more excited for their own Ray Bourque. However, despite Boston’s love for its teams, its track record has been far less than perfect. It is about time Boston sports teams and fans had their chance to bask in glory.

Currently, it seems as though everyone in New England has become overnight Pats fans. Truth be told, however, if the team had not made it this far, chances are they would have gone almost unnoticed for another season. Sports fans are jumping on the bandwagon to share the excitement, and the Pats deserve it.

While they do not have to prove themselves as the most dedicated fans, sports-lovers can take this opportunity to have fun. The atmosphere of the city will undoubtedly be amazing Sunday, so enjoy it. It is the first, and quite possibly the last, time Boston residents will be able to feel this kind of enthusiasm.

So good luck to the New England Patriots. The team has had a remarkable season, overcoming injuries and controversy to make it to the big one. Not only has every single one of the players performed well, but each has played with class. Few teams in the NFL hold that quality — and in our eyes, the Patriots have already won.
