No lies told on campus tours

Hi! I’m Jim Bulger, “the former President’s Host who forgot how childish Free Press columnists can be!”

I’m referring, of course, to “Brodie” Van Dyke’s take on the Office of Admissions’ virtual tour (“Revealing BU-roken promises on a campus tour of lies” March 28). While I did very much appreciate seeing some of the things I said can still have such an effect on students, I think that Mr. Van Dyke could have found a better use of his time than to pick through the website looking for lines on which to hang his silly complaints.

Does “Brodie” really believe that President’s Hosts are instructed to lie on those tours? That the Boston University police officers who make the campus one of the safest in the country only appear when groups of prospective students walk by? That living in Warren Towers is nearly the same as being enlisted in the army? Even that the antenna on the COM building is part of some elaborate ruse to “trick prospective freshmen”?

I chose to pay tuition at BU and presumably so does Mr. Van Dyke, and while the place isn’t perfect I really enjoyed my time there and the opportunities it’s given me. Perhaps Mr. Van Dyke should spend less of his free time gazing at my picture on the Web and more trying to appreciate some of the nice things about the place that the President’s Hosts try to describe every day.
