Metronome leads to Warren bomb scare, evacuation

About 50 people were evacuated from Warren Towers Monday in response to a suspicious, ticking package found in the mailroom.

The Boston Police Explosive Ordnance Unit was called in to deal with the package, said Boston University Spokesman Colin Riley.

According to Riley, the bomb squad shot a water pellet at the box to open it and discovered a nine-volt battery and a ticking metronome.

Most of the other items in the box were not damaged.

The students and parents evacuated were part of the First-Year Student Outreach Program. Josh Koshar, a FYSOP student and College of Arts and Sciences sophomore, said the evacuation occurred in steps.

“They first evacuated us away from the guard booth and then the lobby,” Koshar said. “Then we moved downstairs, then away from the doorway and then they moved us farther to the lawn of [the College of Communication] and then they cleared us off the entire block.”
