The Boston University women’s lacrosse team could not extend its winning streak to two games against Vanderbilt University on Friday, falling to the Commodores 16-9 in Nashville.

Vanderbilt (3-0) has defeated its opening three opponents of the 2015 campaign by a combined score of 60-20.

The Commodores did not take long to get on the board as attack Kelly Chandler scored an unassisted goal 11 seconds into the game, slotting it past sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Meegan.

The Terriers (1-1) were able to respond on a free-position shot by redshirt junior Mallory Collins, her first of five on the day.

Collins had four goals in the Terriers’ season-opener on Feb.13, a 13-9 win over Siena College.

After the Collins’ goal, Vanderbilt took control of the game, scoring four unanswered goals, including two from attack Mallory Schonk. Senior attack Lindsay Weiner finally broke the streak with 14:45 remaining, yet again with a free-position shot.

This did not deter the Commodores, though, as they proceeded to score another three consecutive goals to make the score 8-2. Six different players scored those eight goals, showing off the versatility of the squad.

Junior midfielder Jill Horka then got the Terriers back to life with a goal at the 7:47 mark. For the 2014 All-Patriot League First Team player, it was her only point of the day after having a three-point game against Siena (0-2).

The teams then went back and forth to end the half with Vanderbilt holding an 11-5 lead.

The second period was a much more even affair between the two teams with Vanderbilt only outscoring the Terriers by one goal. At one point, the Commodores had another run of four consecutive goals, but this time, BU was able to answer with three goals of its own.

Statistically the teams were quite similar with similar numbers in the turnovers, saves and groundball categories.

The Terriers also excelled in free-position shots as they converted 4-of-6 chances they had during the game.

Next up, BU will host the University of Massachusetts Amherst at home on Wednesday.
