A 17-year-old Boston University student was struck and killed overnight by an MBTA Commuter Rail train on the tracks behind 10 Buick St., Transit Police and BU officials said.

Transit Police said in a statement that officers responded to find a body the Worcester Line tracks at approximately 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The 17-year-old male, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the student was a BU freshman from China. Officials are still investigating how he entered the tracks and why he was in the area, Sullivan said.

Jake Wark, a spokesperson for the Suffolk District Attorney’s office, said no foul play or criminal conduct is suspected.

A previous version of this story reported that Transit Police said the student was 18 years old. They later revised their estimate; this story has been updated to reflect this change.
