BU men’s club rugby falls to UVM, 28-14
The BU men’s club rugby team made the trek up to the Green Mountain State this past weekend to take on the University of Vermont. The Terriers started off strong, as junior Vinny Celeste intercepted a poor UVM throw and returned it for the first try of the match. Senior Carlos Salazar’s kick gave BU a 7-0 lead.
Vermont would respond, scoring a try and adding two penalty kicks to jump out to the lead going into halftime. The Terriers once again seized the lead after a try from senior Pete Johnson and a kick from Salazar, giving BU a 14-13 advantage. Unfortunately for the Terriers, the Catamounts would not go quietly, scoring the final 15 points of the match en route to the win.
BU Kung Fu club takes part in New England Kung Fu-Wushu Championship
The BU Kung Fu club participated in its first tournament of the year over the weekend at the fourth annual New England Kung Fu-Wushu Championship. The first event of the tournament was Extreme Push-Hands — a freestyle form of Push Hands, which combines tai chi with modern wrestling. Matthew Zin, the club’s president, participated in the match and captured the bronze medal. Meanwhile, freshman Qianqin “Kaity” Zhu took part in the Beginner Sparring Women’s division, facing off against an advanced women’s fighter in a special match. Despite losing the match, Zhu earned a gold medal for her efforts. Other participants in the tournament were alum Adrian Li, sophomore Stefan Linn, sophomore Christine La and alum Francis Neem.
BU club inline hockey defeats Villanova, 3-1
The BU club inline hockey team played at a preseason game in Feasterville, Pennsylvania, over the weekend. BU began the event with an 8 a.m. matchup against Villanova University. After a scoreless first period, the Terriers got on the board in the second period, as senior defenseman Jared Angin scored to give the Terriers the lead. After the second period ended with both teams locked in a 1-1 stalemate, BU put the game away in the third, scoring two goals to seal the win.
BU club inline hockey comes up short versus Saint Joseph’s, 6-5
Following their victory over Villanova Saturday morning, the BU club inline hockey team faced off against Saint Joseph’s University in an afternoon tilt. While the Terriers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period, Saint Joseph’s responded with four unanswered goals in the second to build an impressive lead. The Terriers would not submit, however, tying the game up at 5-5 thanks in part to numerous Saint Joseph’s penalties. The game went into overtime, when Saint Joseph’s was able to capitalize on a power-play opportunity, just a minute into the extra period, to hand BU its first loss of the year.
BU men’s club soccer bests Vermont in 1-0 contest
The BU men’s club soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a match against the University of Vermont Saturday night at Nickerson Field. Senior Tom Bray provided all the scoring the Terriers needed, firing a shot that snuck inside the near post of the goal to give BU a 1-0 lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Salvatore Borgognone put forth a great effort in net in helping BU earn its first shutout of the year.
Sunday, Oct. 12
BU club inline hockey dealt 5-2 loss by Drexel
The BU club inline hockey team wrapped up its weekend by facing off against Drexel University Sunday morning. Both the Terriers and Dragons traded goals to start off the game, leading to a 2-2 game with 10 minutes remaining in the second period. Ultimately, the Dragons broke through, scoring three unanswered goals to secure victory.
