A 32-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the abdomen last night on an Orange Line MBTA train approaching the Mass. Ave. station.
At approximately 8 p.m., MBTA Police were notified of a shooting at the station, according to Lydia Rivera, spokesperson for the MBTA Police.
The suspect is unknown and fled the scene immediately. The incident is under investigation by the MBTA Police in collaboration with the Boston Police Department, Rivera said.
The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center and immediately underwent surgery. The fetus died and the woman was in critical condition, according to the Associated Press.
Orange line service at the Mass. Ave. stop was down for two and a half hours, but the MBTA was able to divert trains around the station. Service returned to normal at approximately 10:30 p.m., Rivera said.
