A letter to the editor (“RA upset with dining hall rules,” pg. 7) in the Wednesday, March 3 issue of The Daily Free Press was written by a student who identified himself as a resident assistant and included a statement encouraging “each and every Boston University student who eats in a campus dining hall to take whatever they want when leaving.” This statement runs counter to the Office of Residence Life’s goals, and should not be interpreted as a reflection of the department’s position on Dining Services guidelines, in general, or on the limit on food items that may be taken from residence dining rooms, in particular.
I have found in my long tenure at the university that our colleagues in Dining Services are commendably service-oriented, flexible and student-centered in their work. If you are a student with a meal plan and you find it difficult to utilize your meal plan during scheduled dining hours then I urge you to consult with a dining room manager for assistance. I am confident you will be pleased with the support you receive and that there will be no need to “take whatever you want when leaving.”
I apologize to members of the university community who were upset or offended by the letter that appeared on March 3.
