Well, well. In Dubya’s latest attempt to justify a war with Iraq, he has stooped to a new level of intellectual stupidity. As you may have read, this past Thursday, King George II, in pushing his agenda for an invasion of Iraq, made the following statement: “After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad,” in reference to Saddam Hussein (www.cnn.com).
This statement was based on an alleged plot by Saddam to kill King George I of America (Dubya’s daddy) during a visit he made to Kuwait during the Clinton Administration. Regardless of the validity of this allegation, the one thing Dubya doesn’t need to be doing is making comments that so overtly portray his current crusade against Iraq as some sort of revenge mission. Because, quite frankly, that’s all comments like this one do. They portray his hawkish policy regarding Iraq as an attempt to do what his daddy didn’t have the guts to do: remove Saddam from power.
Furthermore, Georgie-pooh really doesn’t have any reason to be screaming about war, yet. Last I heard, Iraq had agreed to let United Nations weapons inspectors back into the country, and the United Nations was in the process of drafting a resolution regarding Iraq. Isn’t that what Dubya wanted? Isn’t that what he’s been screaming about? Why, then, does he continue to scream about war with Iraq? There is no need for that right now. Show me proof that Iraq is an eminent threat. What you have on the table right now isn’t cutting it.
The remarks like the one mentioned above, coupled with Dubya’s continuous push for war with Iraq leaves the United States looking like a nation out to finish what it started 11 years ago. Is this really the image we want to give to the international community? I think not.
