The style gurus at The Muse have one main thrill in life: makeovers. So, in order to make our lives worth living, we’ve started ‘Oh, make me over!’ Over the next five weeks, we will be featuring Boston University student makeovers. The students we select come to us looking for a change in the way they look, dress and feel. Four salons in the Boston area have been kind enough to donate free cuts, color, nails, make-up and more. The result? Radical transformations, bright smiles and satisfied students.
The Place
Giacomo and Rondi Salon 539 Commonwealth Ave. (617) 437-1313
This upper-echelon salon features a plethora of affordable beauty processes, from your average style and finish to luxurious Aveda facials. An amazing aroma of natural plant essence creeps out from the bottles of Aveda products that line the far wall. You will notice the angular-meets-feng-shui atmosphere of the salon. The white walls are lined with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and accented with sparse bamboo plants. The towering lights create a soothing effect over the very clean yet crisp décor.
The Victim
Name: Sweta Daga Year: Junior School: COM / CAS Major(s): Public Relations, Political Science
Sweta came to us with gorgeous, curly, dusty brown but slightly unmanageable shoulder-length hair. She has incredible emerald-green eyes and wears no makeup. As a COM student and intern at an event-planning firm, Sweta’s busy lifestyle calls for a relaxed look. On top of Sweta’s beautiful and elegant natural look is an exuberant personality this girl is larger-than-life fantastic.
The Rescue Squad — Katia Bonomi: stylist extraordinaire, and Francimar Marrero: first-rate esthetician.
Katia’s plan was to create an easy-to-manage look, which meant angled layers, natural highlights and Color Current Permanent hair color. Katia began by foiling Sweta’s hair with a honey-brown dye and then used an energized, oxidant-free red gel. The foils and color stayed in for 10 minutes, dryer-free. Katia dried and straightened Sweta’s hair with a flat iron. Following the hair dry, Katia cut Sweta’s hair with scissors and a razor, creating clean lines in the back and angled pieces that framed Sweta’s face. Katia did an incredible job on Sweta she did not just create a new hairstyle but a work of living art.
Francimar waxed Sweta’s eyebrows to create a defined arch. Francimar wanted to create a natural look for Sweta while adhering to fall colors for makeup. Working with neutral tones, Francimar dusted an olive and emerald green powder on Sweta’s lids, followed by a light eyeliner and mascara that made Sweta’s eyes pop. She used a light foundation on Sweta’s face and shimmering powder and bronzer on her cheekbones. Francimar used a natural golden gloss on her lips so as to not take away from Sweta’s naturally dramatic eyes. The transformation was breathtaking. Francimar painted a natural, glowing face of radiance and sheer beauty.
