Dear BU Community:
Having obtained a graduate degree from Boston University in 1997,and being employed as the Operation’s Manager in Residential Safety(1995-12/01)it was with great interest that I read Mr. Yelenak’s article.
Ms. Caplan’s remarks concerning the “media attention” casting BU in a “bad light” were of grave concern. When our leadership affords the same opportunity and fair treatment for everyone in the community, then we can eliminate the protections that Dr. Silber removes from some in our community.
Personally, I have witnessed,as well as reported different treatment in employment and housing for the gay community. My Division and Department Directors were hostile to the news. Personnel was not interested.
It is only because of the intense media scrutiny that the scandalous behavior of individuals, and leadership became exposed.
Mr. Yelenak’s article and other efforts to expose the lack of leadership should be worn as a “badge of honor.” It is only through all of our efforts that we can educate and move ahead.
