Boston University’s Student Union General Assembly held its first meeting Monday night, where committee chairmen and the Union executive board notified members of the current state of the Union.
Student Union President Jon Marker discussed the Union’s vacant treasurer position and said it will be filled within the next month.
“Over the summer, we lost our treasurer [Marc Weber],” he said. “We have 13 applicants. And by the Student Union constitution, I have the privilege of interviewing them. My pledge is by next meeting, I’ll have my pick and then I’ll bring them to you.”
Marker said the executive board spent time this summer establishing connections with the administration.
“We talked with the administration about some of the committees we were forming,” the College of Arts and Sciences junior said. “We have that contact set up.”
The Guest Policy committee plans to bring a new proposal to President Robert Brown in the near future.
“We’re in the process of setting up a meeting with President Brown,” Marker said. “He’s going to sit down and talk with us about the Guest Policy, and we’re going to bring forward the proposal we had last year.”
Guest Policy committee chairwoman Gracie Badalament said the policy is a priority because it affects students’ lives daily.
“This is your home,” the School of Management freshman said. “We want this to be more comfortable.”
The six other committee chairmen shared their goals and expressed the need for student involvement.
