I am writing in response to a column written by Brian Fudge concerning the Noble Peace Prize (“An inconvenient Nobel Peace Prize nominee,” Oct. 11, p. 7). Now, I was mildly annoyed with Fudge’s disdain for Al Gore, who is being considered for a Nobel prize, but I was appalled when I read the words “rabble-rousing” right next to Martin Luther King Jr.
Like many Boston University students who are fortunate enough to share the same alma mater as the great civil rights leader, I admire Dr. King’s work. But I also hail from Atlanta, Dr. King’s home and birthplace. To disrespect Dr. King is an insult to Atlanta and me, but most importantly to BU.
Fudge ends his column asking liberals to champion a cause other than global warming because he can’t stand Al Gore. He tells liberals to “just invent something” . . . like equal rights?
