Hello, I prefer to remain anonymous, so rather than print this letter, please forward it to the News department so that they can investigate this story. Don’t reply to the e-mail address, as it is fake.
I live on Bay State Road and am a house representative in the Residence Hall Association, known as the Brownstone Student Council. I am writing so that the students of Boston University can be made aware of the ridiculous crap that is going on at the BSC this year.
I’ll cut to the chase: I know enough to tell you that the E-Board has been conspiring to fund personal benefits for themselves in secret, that is, without telling the house representatives. For example, they’re planning to give themselves and their friends free hotel rooms during their trip to Montreal, they’re trying to get free half-hour massages during a bay state wide massage event that everyone else must pay for, they’re trying to go out to dinner and have BU pay for it, and buy themselves personal supplies like inc cartridges. They even tried to rig a raffle in which everyone participates to their own advantage. Moreover, for the first month of the year they ran meetings like a group of dictators, not letting house reps have any say or vote on any decision, claiming authority to decide house funds requests themselves. At one meeting the president even said, “I am going to spend all of the RHA’s money this year.” They arbitrarily cancelled one meeting for the dumb reason that it was a “BU Monday.”
But now things have gotten even worse. A bunch of houses got together and read the Constitution and found out that a simple majority of Bay State residents can vote to allocate money however they want, so two of them, the SED House and the Honors House, got like 50 people to go to the last meeting and voted themselves $300 for each house. SED bought themselves an “entertainment center” -a tv and dvd player, and the Honors House is spending $300 on FOOD for a Christmas Party! And instead of objecting to it, all the other houses present jumped in and asked for money of their own, though not nearly as ridiculous as what those two houses got.
So right now we have an authoritarian eboard trying to allocate funds to themselves in secret and a coalition of houses trying to bully their way into getting the rest of the RHA’s money. You really need to run an investigation of this matter so that the students know of the scandal in the Brownstone Student Council. Please come to Tuesday night’s meeting at Towers Franklin Lounge at 7:00pm, and talk to the members of the e-board and RAs from the houses involved in the scandal:
