The deadline for entering as a Student Union E-board slate in the upcoming elections has com and gone, and three slates have registered. While the Student Union Elections Commission is disappointed by the low number of candidates, members admit that many students did not know that the deadline was approaching so soon because of a lack of advertising.
We here at the ‘ol Free Press are disappointed that we didn’t get the chance to register our own slate: The Write Stuff.
We understand student concerns and want to work on improving campus life and academic programs. Each individual in our slate will separately work to accomplish specific goals. We promise to fight actively (and individually) for those issues even after we are elected.
For example, our candidate for president has discussed with the administration about getting some real TV. She wants to ensure Direct TV (none of this enhanced TV business), complete with 842 channels, is available in all on-campus dorms.
Our VP of Academic Affairs representative will continue to approach the administration about the creation of a Polish studies major. While he has been met with strong opposition from several upper level administrators, he pledges to hold sit-ins on the roof of the College of Arts and Sciences (the Astronomy classes will have to move their labs elsewhere), boycott classes and lead rallies on Marsh Plaza until BU relents.
The VP of Residence Life rep will continue his semester-long campaign to get high-pressured shower heads in all campus dorms. She believes that it is not fair that students living in the newer dorms have “enhanced shower facilities” while others have to suffer with weak and irregular water flow.
And our slate’s VP of Safety Services rep wants BU to give students personal Razor scooters for late-night travel around campus (it will double as a bully club to fight off stalkers) paid for by our Undergraduate Student Fee, and our slate’s VP of Financial Affairs rep will fight to unionize all undergraduates and mandate all work-study jobs have a minimum wage of $18.39 an hour, and…
Oh wait, we’re not the Student Underground. Never mind …
