Defending a columnist’s humor

I have been following the columns written and submitted by Denise Spellman with much ardor. I feel she really shows some of the “backwards times” of student life during the college years and does a truly entertaining job in the process.

I also want to express great bewilderment as to why people write in with negative opinions about her columns. As I would take it, her submissions aren’t meant to model college life or act as a stereotype of students. If she was trying to do that, her column would be called “What students do while in college” or such. Instead her columns attempt to show humor such as the movie “Animal House” did in 1978. If people do not understand this then maybe one more year of high school might be the best thing for them.

As part of the student population that enjoys reading Miss Spellman’s articles (and I know you are part of the elite many), congrats! You have learned an important lesson about life: when to loosen up and realize life can be fun depending on how you look at it.
