BUPD LOG: Student Chokes On Eel Bone, Is Rushed To Hospital

The following were taken from last week’s Boston University Police Department logs.

After choking on an eel bone, a 20-year-old BU student was transported to a hospital on Feb. 7 at 9:15 p.m., according to police.

BUPD officers responded to 775 Commonwealth Ave. after the victim called to report she was having difficulty breathing. She told police she was eating sushi earlier in the night and an eel bone must have gotten stuck in her throat.

SEXUAL MAIL

A male BU employee received a letter from an unknown person containing sexually explicit material on Feb. 5, police said.

The victim told police he checked his office mailbox at 985 Commonwealth Ave. around 10 a.m. that morning and found a suspicious letter. According to police, the address on the envelope was not written, but instead formed by letters cut out of a magazine or newspaper.

The return address for the letter was Bronx River Road in Yonkers, N.Y. The case is still under investigation by BUPD.

THEFT

A man reportedly stole $26 from a female BU employee at 595 Commonwealth Ave. on Feb. 6 at 10 a.m., police said.

The victim told officers she noticed a man in the office area while she was working. According to police, when she asked him what he was doing, he replied, “Looking for the cleaning guy.”

The victim asked the man’s name and he said it was Tony Coy. He then left the office. Soon after, the victim discovered the missing money from her wallet, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 30, 5’9″, slender build, wearing a blue down jacket, baggy jeans and work boots, according to BUPD.

•$250 worth of property was stolen from a 30-year-old BU student while she performed in the Tsai Center on Feb. 6 between 3-5:30 p.m., police said.

The victim told BUPD she left her backpack in the audience while she performed. While on stage, she reportedly saw only two students in the audience. According to police, one was her friend and fellow student, and the other was an unknown male.

When the victim retrieved her bag, she found that $50, her cell phone, worth $200, various credit cards and her books were all missing from her backpack, according to police.

•A laptop was stolen from a BU employee at 15 St. Mary St. between Feb. 4-8, according to police.

The victim reported that between Monday at 9 p.m. and Friday at 6 a.m., his laptop was stolen from his office. According to police, it was a Hewlett Packard laptop valued at $1,325.

•Two backpacks were stolen from the BU Case Center on Feb. 8 between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., police said.

The first victim, a 20-year-old BU student, told police he left his backpack on the floor in the weight room of 285 Babcock St. while he worked out. When he returned, he found his backpack, $40 jacket, various credit cards, $30 in cash and $200 eyeglasses all missing.

According to police, the second victim, another 20-year-old BU student, left his backpack in the same area while he worked out. He returned to find his backpack missing, along with $50, a $120 calculator and two textbooks valued at $120. There are no suspects or witnesses in the case, police said.

DRUG USE

A 19-year-old male BU student was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 9 at 2:38 a.m. after reportedly consuming too much alcohol, police said.

BUPD responded to 270 Babcock St. on Saturday after receiving a “man down” call and found ambulance personnel already treating the victim. He was unconscious, unresponsive and had vomited several times, police said.

The victim’s roommate, an 18-year-old BU student, reportedly told police the victim had been at an unknown club and drank 10-12 shots of rum. The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the dean of students was notified, police said.

•An 18-year-old BU student was caught consuming mushrooms at 3: 45 a.m. on Feb. 9 at 400 The Fenway, police said.

According to police, officers arrived on the scene at the same time as an ambulance and found the student unresponsive to commands. The victim’s resident assistant told police the victim had been in his room consuming alcohol and taking mushrooms.

The student was transported to Beth Israel Hospital and the dean of students was notified for further disciplinary action, according to BUPD.

SUSPICIOUS MAN

A 20-year-old BU student reported a suspicious male in her Myles Standish Hall room on Feb. 9 at 2:15 p.m., police said.

When she returned to her room on Saturday, the victim found the unknown male standing there, she told police. According to police, he fled as soon as he saw her. The door had been left unlocked when the victim left and nothing of value was discovered missing. Police conducted a search of the building, and no suspects were found.

HARASSMENT

A 21-year-old BU student told police she was harassed by a man in a passing car outside the College of Fine Arts at 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 10.

The woman told police that while walking inbound on Commonwealth Avenue, a dark-colored late model sedan drove up beside her. Inside the car was a black male, who she said appeared to be in his early 20s and was wearing a yellow shirt and jacket.

According to police, the suspect told the woman to “get into the car.” The victim then began running inbound toward her apartment on Bay State Road. The car did not follow her, and when she returned home, she called BUPD. Officers then searched the area for the vehicle with negative results, police said.

CHASE

A 20-year-old male non-BU student was arrested after being chased by police inside Myles Standish Hall on Feb. 9 at 6:40 p.m., police said.

According to police, a BUPD officer was already inside the building taking a previous crime report when the RA informed him that there was a suspicious person on the sixth floor. The officer searched the floor and by the elevator found the suspect, Joseph Reynolds, of 570 Washington St. in Brighton.

Reynolds was ordered to stop, but he opened the door to the stairway and allegedly started running down the stairs. The officer chased him and grabbed him on the fourth floor, according to police. Reynolds reportedly told the officer he was visiting a friend but was unable to give a name. He then told police he did not have an ID on him.

While searching Reynolds, the officer allegedly found a license showing Reynolds’ picture but as a 21-year-old with a different name, according to police. The officer then placed Reynolds under arrest for having possession of an altered motor vehicle license, according to BUPD.
