I am writing in response to all the articles, opinion columns, and letters to the editor on the bashing of BU facilitated by the current debate on the guest policy. As much as I am in favor of some changes to the guest policy, I am not in favor of all the BU bashing that accompanies this debate. Although I am sad that many students hate BU and its guest policy so much that they leave or transfer out, they should not try to bring others down with them. I don’t love BU, but I do like it very much in spite of all its shortcomings. I wouldn’t be here right now, a junior, if I didn’t think BU was a good place. I have met and worked with some awesome people at BU and my experience at BU has been positive overall. I don’t live on some high cloud and I do realize that many of the issues such as the Guest Policy are important right now. As a student advisor for this upcoming summer of 2002, it dampens my spirit to read and encounter so many negative students. So here’s my plea to the student body: Please do not make the college experience worse for the students that do enjoy the community at BU and wish to continue here. BU has over 30,000 students, and I’m sure not all of them hate and bash BU. Think about how you can show your love and pride through leadership, government, and service. Progess and change cannot be achieved through forces such as hate. We can only move forward through positive action.
