Taking sides on Question 1: Get money out of government and into the people’s pockets

College and university graduates of the mid-late 1990’s were greeted with the richest job market in history. Lucrative jobs awaited them at dot-com and other business ventures as soon as they got their diploma.

But today’s Massachusetts college and university graduates face a grim job market. The Massachusetts economy has been hard hit by layoffs, pay cuts and rising unemployment.

Thousands of unemployed professionals with job experience can’t find jobs. Thousands who graduated last June still can’t find jobs. Thousands more graduates will enter the job market next year.

My ballot Question 1 to End the Income Tax will create 300,000 to 500,000 desperately needed new jobs in the private sector in Massachusetts, based on two Beacon Hill Institute studies. A job for the 174,000 workers in Massachusetts collecting unemployment and the tens of thousands more whose unemployment ran out. Jobs for our high school, college and university graduates.

With 300,000 to 500,000 new jobs, university graduates will have more job choices. More opportunity to find a job that suits them at the right pay. More take-home pay.

Why are good jobs so scarce in Massachusetts? Big government and high taxes.

Big government and high taxes drive businesses out of Massachusetts. Big government and high taxes scare investors.

Small government and low taxes will make Massachusetts an attractive place to do business.

Yes on 1 to End the Income Tax means a bustling job market where employers compete vigorously for employees. And pay everyone more.

In this tough economy, both workers and businesses are forced to slash budgets and dramatically cut spending. But our bloated, greedy, ever-growing $23 billion Massachusetts state government keeps growing — $1 billion more every year.

The Massachusetts state budget doubled in just 10 years. Are children getting double the education they were 10 years ago? Are our streets twice as well paved and maintained?

My ballot Question 1 to End the Income Tax in Massachusetts will repeal all Massachusetts state personal income taxes on wages and income, interest income, dividend income and capital gains income.

Yes on 1 will force the Legislature to dramatically cut spending — just like businesses and taxpayers are forced to do every day. Yes on 1 will force the legislature to repeal Big Government rules and regulations that stifle business innovation.

Yes on 1 will make government small so the Massachusetts job market can thrive once again.

Yes on 1 will give back an average of $3,000 each to 3,000,000 working people. Every year. $3,000 more every year to spend, save or give away. $3,000 more to pay off school loans or to train for a new job.

Even after we end the Income Tax, the Massachusetts state government will collect $14 billion in other taxes still on the books and other sources of revenue. This is still $4 billion higher than the bloated state budgets of Governor Michael Dukakis.

Ending the income tax is a bold first step toward small government.

When we end the Income Tax in Massachusetts, we’ll join nine other states that have no income tax on wages and that have much smaller government budgets. Massachusetts will be the tenth state with no income tax.

When we end the Income Tax, privately-run and effective charities will take over the job that deeply flawed big government welfare programs have failed to address: helping the neediest in society.

Yes on 1 frees up $9 billion for donations to charities that work. Community charities. Private charities that get people back on their feet. Charities that enable people to be self-reliant and self-respecting. Charities that are accountable to their supporters.

As the Libertarian candidate for Governor, I am running to make Massachusetts government small. That’s why I put Question 1 to end the Income Tax on the ballot.

Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat Shannon O’Brien champion today’s $23 billion state budget and today’s high taxes. Mitt Romney and Shannon O’Brien oppose Question 1 to end the Income Tax. Mitt Romney and Shannon O’Brien oppose the only plan proposed in this governor’s race that will create 300,000-500,000 desperately needed new jobs.

Carla Howell is the only candidate for Governor who will dramatically cut state spending and dramatically cut taxes. Who will take $9 billion out of the state government budget and put it back into the hands of the 3,000,000 taxpayers who earned the money.

I am the only candidate for Governor with a plan to create 300,000-500,000 new jobs. To stimulate business and investment in Massachusetts. To make Massachusetts an affordable and attractive place to live.

Small government and low taxes will allow the Massachusetts economy to revive and compete in today’s international economy.

If you want small government, very low taxes, and 300,000-500,000 new jobs waiting for you next spring when you graduate, vote Yes on 1 to end the Income Tax.
