Taslima Nasrin has gone a little too far in stating, “Koran was not written by Allah, but by some selfish man for his own comfort” (“Muslim woman reflects on gender oppression,” Nov. 18, pg. 1). Is she expecting God to come down and write a book for her, so she can believe in God or in what God commands? Or is she really telling that Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) is living in comfort? Does she really know the difference between her grandparents’ ignorance to allow her mother to study and what could be a reason for separation of state and religion?
First of all, how much does Nasrin know about Islam? For example, Nasrin apparently doesn’t know that the Holy Koran wasn’t written by one person. And indeed, if she is referring to Prophet Mohammad as she is, Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) died long before the Koran was written.
Secondly, if Nasrin knew a little about Prophet Mohammad’s personal life, she would know that Prophet Mohammad couldn’t be in any definitive comfort, as the only thing he had when he died was his clothes. He wouldn’t be living in comfort, as all he had to eat was bread, dates, butter and water. How was he in comfort when all he had was a small rug on his floor? Or maybe, if you had compared Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) with Abu-Sufyan, you would know who really was in comfort.
Little does Nasrin know about Islam saving women from being buried alive. Little do Nasrin or her parents know that education is mandatory for both men and women. If her parents or grandparents are restricting her from educating herself, she should realize that it is her parents or grandparents who are blind and illiterate.
Given these facts about Nasrin, one can conclude that Nasrin wouldn’t have any legitimate reason, other than being harassed by her own parents, to talk about the separation of religion and state. There is no correlation between her cases and how she feels Islam is unfair to women.
Not only is Islam a protective religion for both women and men, it is, at its best use, the best religion of all time.
