Mail Theft Ring at BU

Dear Editors,

My sister is a Sophomore at BU. I am writing to you for help publicizing what I believe is a theft ring within BU’s on-campus mail system. Last year, my sister lived at Warren Towers. My parents sent her a package that she never received (even though it was sent via registered mail and someone at BU signed for it). Mysteriously, this package was never delivered to my sister. A second package was received half intact–the food had been stolen. A birthday card also mysteriously vanished. Numerous phonecalls to the mailroom, ResLife and other housing officials provided no answers. The end of her freshman year arrived and when she moved to different dorm, we hoped that this problem had been left behind. Not so.

My sister’s birthday was in February. Her grandmother and aunt both sent her birthday cards this past month and wondered why my sister hadn’t called to thank them. Perhaps because she did not receive either card?

I find it disgusting that a university as expensive as BU can’t afford to provide basic postal service to their students. The only thing more troubling than the theft is the complete incompetence of the housing/res life staff in solving this problem.

I urge you to follow up on this story–I know that my sister is not the only BU student to have experienced postal theft.

Sincerely, Samantha Oren 215-659-0138
