‘True 2’ slate truly best for Union

After taking the time to carefully and thoughtfully peruse the platform statements presented by the three slates running for the Student Union, I firmly believe that the ‘True 2’ slate will effectively represent the real needs of the students at Boston University. While the other two slates, ‘Truant’ and ‘URANUS,’ both bring strong platforms to the voting booth, it is the ‘True 2’ slate that looks to bring fresh, new issues before the Union. While, yes, ‘True 2’ does grapple with the cable debate that has risen to an absurd level of importance over the past few months, they approach it in a more mature, appropriate manner. ‘True 2’ understands that an ‘educational cable / BUTV’ plan is the most mature and responsible manner to approach the issue, as C-SPAN and the History and Discovery channels, as well as our own university TV station are stations that would promote learning as well as entertainment.

But what appeals to me most about the ‘True 2’ slate is that their platform alludes to the understanding of ‘True 2’ that any major change at BU needs to be addressed one small step at a time. Note that ‘True 2’ has not strewn their platform with major projects, such as a rape crisis center, which would be a phenomenal asset to campus, yet would require much more planning time than that which the Student Union can give in a year.

‘True 2’ is the right choice for a new source of pride at BU. Picking up where ‘True’ has left off, hopefully they can make great strides in their campaign to create a more united and prideful campus at BU and across the city of Boston. Their platform states that they will work to recruit and retain minority students; an awesome task, yet one essential to create a diverse and stimulating campus experience. ‘True 2’ also brings the most to the table when we consider student life and pride on campus. ‘True 2’s plan to work for increased funding for Greek life on campus will benefit not only those interested in Greek life, but the BU campus as a whole, as Greek organizations will be able to offer more events on campus with their increased funding. In addition, ‘True 2’s desire to bring spirit and pride back to BU athletics is desperately needed, as all seasons of BU athletics have begun to truly bring BU into the college sports limelight and the time is ripe to build on that success and celebrate it. ‘True 2’s desire to throw post-game spirit parties will offer a fun and safe way to celebrate the success of BU athletics.

In conclusion, these along with the rest of ‘True 2’s platform issues show that they are the slate to choose when voting for a Student Union which will work to better student life at BU, as well as BU’s place in the city of Boston.
