Gay Marriages

Mr.Camire, I honestly have just one question: Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?? Making it legal for gay people to marry is gonna lead to bigamists, pedophiles, and incestual marriages? Hey, toss in a plague of frogs and water turning to blood, and you have a perfect Divine Retribution scenario. I’m not gay, actually, but this strikes me as absurd. First of all Mr. Camire, we are talking about people, grown adults, who happen to be attracted to members of the same sex. Call it a life style choice, call it genetics, call it whatever you want, they happen to like the same sex. What justification, if any, can be given to deny these people the same rights and privileges that heterosexual couples have? See, Mr. Camire, pedophilia and incest are crimes that can be argued outside of religious circles; they are crimes against children (usually). Children, as I hope you very well know, are not adults; in almost all cases, they simply do not have the maturity, the capacity to understand, the ability to reason that most adults do. An 8 year old girl being molested by her father against her will, or being brainwashed to believe it’s acceptable, is not a grown adult of rational choice and reason. Her well being is being affected and is at risk. A 15 year old boy in a relationship with an older man is at risk because at 15, most kids aren’t developed, and have no idea what the hell they want, what to do, or even solid definitions of right and wrong or methods of self assertion. That’s why there are laws protecting children, Mr. Camire. They’re vulnerable. And as far as bigamy goes, if all parties involved are in love and agreement, more power to them. But what, I ask again, can be a serious justification for preventing grown, legal, reasonable adults from being wed, if they happen to be of the same sex? You said so yourself, “Equality means equal rights and opportunities.” Is a social change that frightening? We’re not talking about creating anarchy here, Mr. Camire. Society itself is not going to fall apart at the seams if two John Doe’s are bonking away but it happens to be on their honeymoon. This is sociatal evolution, Mr. Camire. The indignation does not come from people looking down on unmarried homosexuals, sir. It is intrinsically a part of being denied a right for who and what you are for no reason whatsoever. Just as slavery was recognized as evil and horrific, the denial of rights to homosexuals is beginning to be seen as wrong and unjust. Simply because there is no secular reason to deny it. And considering that is was often argued by many religions that slavery was Right and Good, I’m a little hesitant to swallow a religious reason why homosexual marriages are bad. Just one of those things. Have a touch of faith in humanity to evolve and act reasonably. This is Progress, Mr. Camire. So please do us all a favor, and kindly step out of the way.
