city crime watch Unruly high school student assaults cop

The following reports were taken from the Boston Police Department’s District 14 (Allston-Brighton) crime logs for the week of March 29 through April 5.

A 14-year-old female Brighton High School student was summoned to court after allegedly causing a ruckus in the school’s cafeteria and assaulting a school police officer who responded to the complaint at about 11 a.m. on Friday.

The girl was allegedly sitting on top of a lunch table when the officer arrived and became “enraged” when the school disciplinarian asked her to get off of the table. She reportedly became angrier and “began to direct her rage” at the officer when he arrived, which the officer said “jeopardized the safety of staff and students in the area.”

After the school police officer called for backup, the student again refused to get off the table and leave the cafeteria and allegedly struggled with police as they attempted to restrain her. She was eventually handcuffed.

The student was escorted to the school police office, where she reportedly attempted to get out of the chair in which she had been placed and kicked a District 14 officer in the thigh “with a booted foot.”

The girl was then placed on the floor, at which point she turned around and kicked the same officer in the rib cage. Officers responded by restraining the suspect’s ankles, placing a knee on her back and removing her boots for the safety of both the officers and the suspect.

As the girl was being transported to the station, she reportedly “kicked the cruiser window several times with a socked foot.”

The girl was reportedly “still out of control” when she arrived at the station, prompting an officer to send her to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for a psychological evaluation. The officer who was at the scene was also sent to St. Elizabeth’s for treatment for his injured rib cage.

The student will be summoned to Boston Juvenile Court with complaints including disorderly conduct, assault and battery with a “shod foot” and assaulting a police officer. The girl’s probation officer was also notified.

COME ON FEEL THE NOISE

One man was arrested and an arrest warrant was issued for another man who fled the scene of a noisy apartment after the second man allegedly threw a glass bottle at a police officer’s head and repeatedly threatened to kill him. The incident occurred at 41 Strathmore Road, apartment 4, in Brighton, at about 4 a.m. on Monday.

Officers were called to the apartment after another resident in the building complained of a loud party. When they arrived, officers reportedly heard “loud music and voices” coming from the apartment.

Due to the noise, no one answered the door when officers knocked, but they entered the apartment once they discovered the door was unlocked. Inside, the officers found only two people – Eric Georgi, 23, and Julius Hobert, 22 – both of whom live in the apartment. Police reported they were “talking very loudly” over loud music, smelled of alcohol and “appeared to be intoxicated.”

Georgi allegedly pointed his finger in the face of one of the officers and threatened him. The officers spent about five minutes attempting to explain to the men that they would have to “turn off the music and stop disturbing the peace” or be arrested. That reportedly caused Georgi to become “more and more agitated, uncooperative and belligerent.” He reportedly “fixed” his gaze on one of the officers “as he began making fists, clenching his teeth and shaking his arms.”

The other officer attempted to calm Georgi, but he continued to make threats. As the officers moved toward Georgi to arrest him, Hobert reportedly got in between Georgi and the officers and Georgi backed into his bedroom. The officers reportedly warned Hobert that he would also be arrested if he interfered with Georgi’s arrest, which prompted Hobert to put his hands on the officers and attempt to push them away from Georgi. After a “brief struggle,” the officers were able to arrest Hobert.

Georgi then emerged from his bedroom and continued to threaten to kill the officers while punching and kicking one of them. Georgi reportedly went back into his room and slammed the door, at which point Hobert advised the officers not to go into the room because he had knives in there.

When the officer opened the door, he reportedly found Georgi holding a glass bottle above his head, ready to hurl it at the officer’s head. The officer again attempted to calm the suspect, who was reportedly “visibly shaking,” and took out his pepper spray. Georgi then threw the bottle at the officer’s head but missed his target, prompting the officer to spray Georgi.

Georgi kicked the door to his bedroom closed and officers called for backup. When backup officers arrived, they entered Georgi’s bedroom and found an open window, out of which which they suspect Georgi jumped and fled.

Officers broadcast a description of Georgi to other officers in the area, noting that he had been sprayed with pepper spray and could have leg injuries from his jump from the second-floor window. Several Boston and Brookline police units searched the area but were unable to find Georgi.

Hobert was taken to the station for booking, at which point he told officers he took six tablets of the drug Ritalin, which he bought at a party. He gave officers the two additional pills he had not yet taken, which were entered into a drug-control book.

Hobert was then taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for evaluation and was “admitted for observation relative to his consumption of Ritalin.” He will also be charged with drug possession.
