Elections a Joke

I do not know what is worse, the the Freep endorsed Deon Provost, or that he actually won the presidency. He has quite the platform. He promised everything except the kitchen sink. Some of the things he has promised have already been done, for example, giving credit to the WTBU E-board. There’s some good filler. His platform was to make everyone happy, but he cannot possibly do it all. He is not focused enough and that will cause problems for him next year. Mike Myers was by far the best candidate out there, and he did not even garner half as many votes as Deon. Myers has an excellent track record. Deon, who are you? Not to stop there, however. Andrew Nocon was a much better candidate for treasurer than Marc Weber. This past year, Weber was in charge of updating the student union web site. Updates were few and far between. It is not hard to update a web site, I know that because I maintain the web site for The Towers Residence Hall Association. If he could not even perform the simplest of tasks, what on earth makes 1,372 people believe he can possibly handle the duties of being treasurer of the student union? I guess more people would know about it if the Freep reporter who wrote on the debates had stayed to hear what the treasurer and secretary candidates had to say. Andrew Nocon has experience being a treasurer. He is currently the treasurer for The Towers RHA. He has done an excellent job doing his job. He would have made an excellent treasurer. He has experience, and a track record of doing his job. Weber does not. The race for secretary was close and maybe a recount is in order since the difference was less than 1% (21 votes to be exact). Bridget Harrison’s platform explained what she would do as secretary and she would have done her job. I do not know Matt Bennett, but I know this – his platform said nothing about how he would carry out the responsibilities of his position. I hope he knows what he is getting into. Based on his platform, he should have run for president or vice- president. After a year full of problems in our Student Union, I was hoping this election would allow us to elect the right people to help return respectability to the Union. Instead, we have a president in over his head, an excellent vice- president, a treasurer who ran for the sake of a title, and a secretary who has yet to read his job description. Here’s to another year of being laughed at by outsiders! Jonah Goldberg jonahg@bu.edu 516-659-1177 or 617-352-7135 COM ’07 The Towers RHA Vice-President
