What can be said about infamous gangsta rapper Ice-T that hasn’t been said before? His newest release, aptly titled Gangsta Rap, brings us back to the “days of old.” Most of the tracks on this album actually are dedicated to some original gangsta rappers: NWA, Ice Cube, Easy-E and producer Suge Knight. Don’t listen to this album expecting to hear songs like “F–k tha Police” or “Body Count” with driving, almost metal guitar and drums. Gangsta Rap gets back to the basics with straight hip-hop beats, glorifying gang violence, drugs and of course, the West Coast. Not exactly what you would expect from Officer Fin Tutuola of Law ‘ Order: Special Victims Unit. Although Ice-T may not be the most respected rapper out there, he maintains a good flow over decent beats. If you were ever a fan, check out this new release. Grade: B
