Uburger, located in the heart of Kenmore Square, is our ultimate guilty pleasure.
If you haven’t been to Uburger thus far in your college experience, we suggest you move fast. This burger joint attracts students and adults alike for its array of cooked-to-order burgers and hand-cut French fries that are sure to satisfy any eater’s appetite.
There’s a definite strategy to getting the most out of Uburger. When you walk into the small, cafeteria-style restaurant, you place your order with the cashier from the chalkboard menu above and receive a number.
There’s a range of typical ‘fast food’ choices — burgers with assorted toppings and other similar options. One favorite is the ‘Boom Burger’ – a beef patty, chipotle sauce, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and fried jalapeños. You can also get chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, milkshakes and more.
A standard Uburger comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles. But what sets it apart is Uburger’s ‘special sauce.’ We don’t know what they put in it – when eating, you can definitely taste ketchup and mayonnaise – but whatever it is, it’s truly addictive.
Not only does Uburger offer burgers that fill your stomach and satisfy your special-sauce cravings without breaking your bank account, but it also offers a variety of non-beef options as well.
One of the most popular picks is the ‘Sweet Chick,’ a grilled chicken sandwich with honey mustard, lettuce and tomatoes.
After placing your order, you wait alongside many other hungry diners hoping your number will be called first. But don’t let this time go to waste. The dining room is set up with just a few measly chairs and tables. Many times you find yourself distracted by the number of people eyeing your table in hopes you’ll soon be done with your meal.
Although it may be annoying to have that person breathing down your neck, it’s really unavoidable to find yourself channeling the impatient diner as well.
During baseball season, most of the restaurant is filled with Red Sox fans, as Fenway Park is just a block away. It’s a very casual atmosphere; everyone just wants to eat their amazing Uburgers.
The bustling in and out of students, workers and professors alike make this restaurant what it is: a fun, fast — yet quality — burger shop.
All of Uburger’s food is cooked to order, making the food very high quality. The fries are hand-cut, very thin and fried to perfection. The ‘frappes,’ as Uburger calls them, are thick and creamy.
We once, for some odd reason, decided to try a salad with mesclun lettuce, walnuts, cranberries, gorgonzola cheese and balsamic dressing instead of the normal, satisfying Uburger. Big mistake. The salad was only OK and not very filling. But we’ve learned our lesson, and we’re sharing that lesson with you: Go for the Uburger.
