Film

As a film student, a question I am asked constantly is, ‘What is your favorite movie?’ Some might be devoted to the Godfather franchise or may be die-hard fans of Citizen Kane, but I find it impossible to pick one, or even three all-time favorites. Times change, filmmaking styles change, technology changes, and hell, I change. Movie-makers do their best to create works that, for the most part, a large amount of people are going to enjoy. Some cater to the masses, while others focus on a specific, small demographic. There’s no shame in enjoying the movies that fall into the first category, but its your individual taste, mood and mindset that’s going to develop an ongoing love affair with that one particular film that truly strikes a chord. Whether you Netflix every Hollywood film noir piece from the 1940s or live in your local indie movie theater, it’s important to take the time to discover your favorites’-‘- or rather, your favorites for the time being.’ You don’t need to have ‘the classics’ on your list to be considered knowledgeable about the world of film, just whatever speaks to you, today.
