The following reports were taken from the Allston-Brighton District D-14 crime logs from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21, 2011.
Caught in the Act
At 12:30 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a radio call concerning a larceny in progress at 28 Shepard St. in Brighton. The suspect was described as a white male in his 40s wearing a black and white poncho. A male saw the suspect enter his girlfriend’s vehicle, after which he yelled at the suspect, but the suspect swore at him and ran away. Officers received another call concerning the same suspect who was then hiding behind 42 Shepard St. Police found the suspect at 75 Union St. where he said he was “taking a leak.” A witness confirmed that he observed the suspect trying to open the doors of at least four vehicles. Officers discovered two iPods, a Blackberry, blank checks, credit cards, a GPS, jewelry, knives and three large backpacks among other stolen goods that were then turned in as evidence. The suspect was placed under arrest for buying, receiving and concealing stolen goods.
Unexpected visitor
On Friday at 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a radio call about a breaking and entering at 59 Lanark Rd. in Brighton. The female victim told officers on arrival that a white male in his 40s dressed entirely in black was in her apartment taking pictures. The victim did not recognize the male suspect, but he used keys to enter her home and then entered her bedroom while she was still in bed. When she yelled at him to leave, he mumbled something and left. Her boyfriend, who was not home at the time, called the police. The incident was the fault of the management company of the apartment building who let the person in without notice, police said.
Tomb Raider
On Friday at 11:15 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a breaking and entering of a tomb at Evergreen Cemetery at 2060 Commonwealth Ave. sometime the night before. The suspect smashed the sealed marble door of the tomb from 1851, likely with a large rock found near the entrance. Detectives at this time are unable to determine if any objects were stolen because the last burial at the tomb was in 1939.
Just peachy
An officer responded to a radio call for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Braintree Street and Everett Street in Allston on Saturday at 7:45 a.m. Upon arrival, the officer observed a destroyed chain-link fence and a Subaru Forester with heavy front-end damage stopped on the train tracks behind 119 Braintree St. The offender, a 24-year-old female, said she was following directions on her GPS and did not know what happened. The offender refused medical treatment and was administered two field sobriety tests, both of which she failed. The woman was placed into custody and failed a Breathalyzer test with a result of .22 percent. Police seized five peach-colored, oval-shaped pills from her center console and the woman was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and possession of class E drugs.
Straight Outta Allston
At about 12 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a radio call concerning a house party at 44 Linden St. in Allston. Officers deemed the party to be out of control and ordered all partygoers off the premises. An officer, alone in the basement, was confronted by a male student, age 20, who said told the officer that he could not be in the house without a warrant and shoved the officer backward. The officer was then jostled forward. The male suspect refused to be handcuffed, and he and the officer wrestled up the basement stairs as other partygoers tried pulling the two apart. Another officer handcuffed the victim who shouted “video this brutality!” as he was taken to the police cruiser. Several witnesses and friends of the handcuffed male said things like “F— you, pig!” and dispersed into the crowd after. The victim was transported to the station and booked for disturbing the peace and assault and battery on a police officer.
