n I’d like to thank The Daily Free Press for promptly sending out the report that missing freshman, Sara Vasquez, has been found and is safe (“Freshman returns after missing for almost 30 hours,” April 30).
As a parent I spent most of my day worrying about this child I do not know. Although I am relieved, I cannot describe how alarmed I was by some of the quotes in the original article (“Freshman missing after night at club,” April 30, p. 1).
While Vasquez’s friends did the right thing once it was apparent that something was wrong, there were many missteps throughout their evening. If Vasquez was intoxicated and didn’t understand her situation, her friends should have kept close watch of her and should not have let her leave with strangers.
The group should have planned its exit before it ever entered the club. Friends must create a plan while they are sober and stick to it, no matter what. If someone is heading down the wrong path, stop him or her!
Unfortunately, it’s a scary world. Take care of each other.
