Stephen Colletti? Co-host of the now defunct Total Request Live. Kristin Cavallari? Doing Wal-Mart ads. Enter Lauren ‘LC’ Conrad, who made her debut on the MTV hit, Laguna Beach, along with her aforementioned peers. However, in an unlikely tale of reality TV superstardom, Conrad is still here, four years later, more popular and more successful than ever. Her spin-off show, The Hills, is in its fourth season, she is the face of’ mark cosmetics and is even writing a book. And, like all celebutantes, she also has her own fashion line.
It was this latest endeavor that brought Conrad to The Estate on Saturday night for a fashion event to showcase her latest line of ready-to-wear dresses. The show was one of four stops Conrad has made around the country.
‘Every weekend we’ve been flying out to different places,’ Conrad said backstage after the show. ‘This one was great, it was a really cool venue. I love Boston, I’ve been here several times. I never get to play while I’m here, it’s all very scheduled.’
The show was sponsored in part by TheQuad.com, a new website geared towards college students that Conrad endorses. The website held a competition for college girls to enter to be a model in the show. After online voting narrowed the search down to 25 girls, Conrad picked the final ten. However, did Conrad have any qualms passing judgment on girls who watch her show on a weekly basis?
‘ ‘I think anyone who enters a modeling contest, they know it’s kind of’hellip;based on looks,’ she said. ‘They all looked so great, they were all beautiful.’
While the girls modeling her clothes were more than likely free-spirited sorority girls, Conrad assures the college lifestyle is not something she regrets passing on.
‘All of my friends did college and sororities. I live with four of them now, so I kind of live in a sorority,’ she said. ‘It was just a different path to take.’
With The Hills more than likely heading into a fifth season, Conrad is pleased to be venturing into other outlets thanks to the success of the show.
‘ ‘Fashion and TV are very different, but they both have a lot of criticism involved, so if anything it kind of gets you prepared for it,’ she said of her new career. ‘I’m having fun with it. They’re both exciting industries to be in.’
