The Boston University women’s soccer team looks to keep its home-undefeated streak alive as it hosts Bryant University on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
BU (10-5-2) is coming off a 1-0 win against America East foe the University of Hartford. Senior forward Farrell McClernen recorded the only tally of the contest when she put a loose ball past Hartford goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur. BU has won eight of its last nine games and currently sits atop the America East standings.
The Bulldogs (3-9-1), however, seem to be heading in the opposite direction. They have only one win in their last seven games and have yet to win on the road. Although the team beat Sacred Heart University and tied Farleigh Dickenson University in their last two games, they aren’t in the playoff picture.
Leading the Bulldogs in points is sophomore Kaitlyn Hinck, who has four goals on the year. Hinck along with freshmen Morgan Derick and Jennifer Harding are the only Bulldogs with multiple goals. Senior Katie Mitchell has taken up most of the time in net for Bryant, registering a goals-against average of 1.87 with a save percentage of .730.
Mitchell’s counterpart, senior Janie Reilly, has been stellar in goal for the Terriers. Reilly’s save percentage is an outstanding .852 and her GAA is a miniscule .52. Reilly also has six shutouts for the Terriers, helping the team through that seven-game winning streak.
On the offensive side of the ball, it’s been senior midfielder Emily Pallotta filling the back of the net, leading the team with five goals. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Luscinski has become a passing machine, leading the team with seven assists and 13 points on the season. The aforementioned McClernon has been stellar as well, scoring four goals this year, three of which have been game-winners.
BU’s offense has been overwhelming for opponents, seeing as the Terriers have outscored their counterparts, 25-13, this season. They have also outshot their opponents by an astounding margin, taking 268 shots to their opponents’ 163. Corners have been another key for the Terriers, taking 98 to their opponents’ 57.
Bryant will need a strong effort against the Terriers if they hope to get their first road win of the year. Unlike the Bulldogs, the Terriers are still in the playoff hunt, duking it out with Stony Brook University for the top spot in the America East. BU will more than likely need to win its last two games to be the No. 1 seed in the conference, and its quest starts when they take on Bryant on Wednesday.
