After a short police chase from Commonwealth Avenue to Mountfort Street on south campus, Boston University Police helped apprehend three men suspected of carrying a firearm, according to police at the scene.
BU students gathered around five patrol cars as the BUPD searched the men’s vehicle and ultimately released them without arrest.
After pursuing a car matching a description from the Boston Police Department over the radio, the BUPD apprehended two men outside the BU Philosophy House.
BUPD acted on a call received by BPD concerning “some type of threat with a firearm” from a car heading east on Commonwealth Avenue from Harvard Avenue toward Kenmore Square, according to BUPD Sgt. Patrick Nuzzi.
Nuzzi said within a minute, BUPD spotted a vehicle near Kenmore Square fitting the description given in the report from BPD.
The officers immediately called for assistance, slowing down traffic on Commonwealth Avenue while waiting for back up.
Nuzzi said officers “attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle kept going.”
The chase ended in front of the student residence on Mountfort Street where the five patrol cars “safely boxed the vehicle in.”
Responding patrols included officers from the BPD, BUPD and the Massachusetts State Police.
BUPD removed three suspects from the dark-colored Oldsmobile sedan and searched the vehicle, finding no firearms.
The suspects were released.
