A Boston University administrator struck and injured College of Communication senior Meghan Coonan, at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday evening, according to the Boston Police.
According to a Boston Police Department report of the incident, Coonan walked -against the light-into the passenger side of the driver’s blue 1998 Volvo while crossing Commonwealth Avenue by the BU West T-stop.
“The officer spoke to the victim who stated while attempting to cross the avenue from 850 Comm. Ave. to the median strip, the traffic light abruptly turned green,” the report stated. “In her haste to cross [the] street safely, she crossed in front of a white van who was traveling in the right-hand lane … Subsequently, she was struck by the right side of [the Volvo, which was in the left-hand lane].”
Several police officers and an ambulance were alerted and arrived shortly after she was hit. Boston Emergency Medical Services put Coonan on a stretcher after she lay in the street for approximately 10 minutes.
The report indicated that Coonan had minor injuries. She was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition Thursday night according to Jerry Berger, a spokesman for the hospital.
At the scene, the vehicle had a damaged side-view mirror on the passenger side of the car pushed toward the window.
BU spokesman Colin Riley confirmed that the driver of the car was a member of the Boston University administration.
Riley said he and the university hoped Coonan was not seriously injured and that she recovered quickly.
Officer John Boyle of the BPD Media Relations said no citations have been issued and the case is under investigation.
